 | Rapfix GTC-R
Progress
This product is developed for the race, in which driver changing takes place. Instead of attaching and detaching the Quick Release products, bouncing the steering wheel (tilt up) is much easier to complete driver-changing action. In order to meet the need, we renew the Rapfix GTC which was released for cars designed for street use to Rapfix GTC-R as a special parts used for competition.
Mechanics
We also designed a new big lever for the GTC-R. Pull this big lever and tilt up the socket of steering wheel side from the plug in car side. Suspend function for stopping at any angles and hold function for avoiding lever operation during tilting down are equipped. Tilting down the steering wheel can complete locking. Precision steel balls can fit the two holes grooved in the plug and the taper holes set up in the socket. Perfect combination is finished by the power of coil spring loaded on the sleeve arm.
Characteristics
By using the Ball Lock System, smooth hinge action and lock without shakiness are realized. The precision steel balls used for ball bearing fit the two holes grooved in the plug attached on the car side. It is locked definitely without any shakiness when tilting down. Rapfix GTC solved the problem of shakiness and play by using the Ball Lock System. Therefore, it plays a big part in the driver’s severe steering wheel operation.
Specifications
It is developed especially for competition cars. Three PCD50.8mm M5P0.8 screw holes are stored in the installation side of the plug that is attached to the car side. The same Six PCD50.8mm M5P0.8 tap holes are stored in the installation side of the steering wheel. Two electric points are set up for option in order to correspond to various electric functions. Furthermore, wiring is set up on the installation side of the steering wheel in order to fulfill the convenience.
Strength
The NAPAC standard test (a standard for after market products in Japan) has been done. A screwing test was done to check the operation of steering wheel to radial power. There was not any change in the shape after being pounded by dead loads of 29.7kg.m (291N.m). Moreover, there was not any change in the shape after a bending test of dead loads of 19.8kg.m (194N.m) in order to examine the effect when a driver impacts the top of the steering wheel in an accident.
According to the results of these tests, although the bending test caused the permanent transformation, it is possible to tilt up. Furthermore, the screwing test based on regulation loads did not cause any problems. Also, in order to know the limitation of tilting up, bending loads 38kg.m (372N.m) was given, although it stretched a lot, it was not broken and it is still possible to operate.
Moreover, 30,000 times of tilting up and tilting down operation in order to check the endurance were done in our factory. We confirmed that it is possible to operate 30,000 times without changing parts although it is necessary to smooth the parts with oil during the test.

Mechanics
Attach the steering plate with steering wheel and attach Rapfix QRS body with steering boss kit. It is possible to propagate the operation to radical direction by corresponding the overhung steel balls with the four holes in the steering plate. Furthermore, the three steel balls grip to the middle and lock the steering plate firmly by operating the directions of Rapfix QRS’ cover called “roller & ball lock system” (patent pending). Therefore, the operation to thrust direction is done perfectly.
Two foldable levers are designed to make the turning of the cover simple. It is also a safety device because the cover cannot be turned without moving the lever. The electrode installed in the plate and Rapfix QRS body, when aligned together in the “attached” position allows full operation of the horn button.
Characteristics
For other quick release manufacturers, it is near impossible to achieve the goal of designing a quick release that features easy operation with no shakiness or play. However, Rapfix QRS achieves these goals by utilizing the lever, cover and ball lock system. In addition, it allows the driver to maintain a comfortable seating position due to it’s approx. 25mm thinness.

Taking pains not to sacrifice safety and comfort.
“Two-step lock” is employed as a measure in cases of emergencies. For as long as the safety trigger is not made to slide, the lock is not released. Hence, the steering wheel does not tilt up with inadvertent contact while driving. Further, a tilted steering wheel is suspended (stopped) in about 6 stages depending on how the plunger mechanism is engaged. The steering wheel can be suspended at the position desired depending on the meter hood and other characteristic features of the car type. Furthermore, a “horn button” may also be used. The horn terminals are built-in inside the main body (plug) of the product and in the tilt-up section (socket). When tilted up, electric current to horn switch is cut-off. When tilted down current is restored through a contact point specific to the purpose.
Superior advantages over existing products
In many of the products of other companies with similar functions, suppression of chatter due to radial load for steering is made difficult by structural problems and sacrificing reverse, steerability, steering feel and other factors that bring about the comfort of tilt up. In RapFix GTC, however, the use of B.L.S. (ball lock system) made it possible to realize surpassing quality in existing products.
How to Use
Tilt-up (tilt-up)
1. Pull down the safety trigger (red lever) and release the ball lock system (safety device).
2. Pull up the lever under the conditions in 1, tilt-up the steering wheel.
Tilt-down
Push the tilted up steering wheel, and push the socket (steering wheel) downwards until the ball lock system (safety device) locks.
