The People behind Plays Kool Motorsport
Plays Kool Motorsport
was formed in 2000 by kit car enthusiast Paul Aspden & rally
co-driver Andrew Terry. Prior to forming the company, Andrew & his
brother Adrian had built & prepared a Vauxhall Nova to group B regs
for competing in local rallies.
Paul had built several kits over ten years & had been competing in
Hillclimbs & Sprints in Westfield’s & Sylva’s since 1994. During
2008 Paul wanted to seek other challenges and in September 2008 sold
Plays Kool to Nick Algar and his son Luke Algar. Before purchasing,
Playskool Motorsport Nick Algar used to run a successful Plastics
vacuum forming Business making plastics parts for big names such as
Nissan, Bentley and Black and Decker, but also parts for kit cars.
In June 2008, Nick sold his business and decided to set his sights
on a new challenge.
In 2000 Nick and Luke had built a Westfield Megabusa kitcar building
the car together, after a few trackday’s and runs out Nick came to
meet Paul Aspen and it was Paul who introduced Nick to the Westfield
Speed series where Nick started sprinting. In his first year of
competing (2003) Nick won Class F of the Championship. The next year
Nick had defiantly got the bug as he competed in Class F again
winning the Class, but adding a Supercharger to the car. The
following year Nick decided to move into Class H the slick shod
class and came a very close second, also coming second in the
British Sprint Championship, but winning the Midland class and Best
Race car class.
In 2006 Nick moved into single seaters competing in a DJ Firehawk.
In 2007 Nick won the 1600 category of the British Sprint
championship and came fourth overall. 2008 has seen Nick win the
1600 category of the British Sprint again, finishing the year third
overall in the championship. For 2009 Nick has bought a Gould GR55
3.5 ltr Cosworth, unlimited car and will again be competing in the
British Sprint Championship.
Well the 2009 season is now over and Nick has Won the
British Sprint Championship!! Not only did Nick win the Championship
but on the final round at Mallory Park Circuit in Leicestershire he
broke the outright lap record previously held by Johan Rajamaki, in
an Footworks Arrows F1 car, back in 1997.
Luke Algar had caught the bug from a young age and went to
university studying Motorsports before taking an Honours degree in
Motorsport management. During
2008 Luke worked as a race mechanic for Formula Palmer Audi, running
the winning car in the Autumn Trophy series 2008. He has now moved
to work full time for Playskool. As well as being a dab hand with a
Kart he is starting to enjoy trackday’s with the Westfield.
